PROJECT OVERVIEW
AltiGeo was appointed to carry out a detailed measured survey of VHI Cork to support the client’s requirement for accurate CAD documentation and a digital walkthrough record of the existing office building. The purpose of the survey was to create a reliable as-built record of the building’s current condition, which could be retained by the client for future reference, space planning, maintenance, design coordination and building management.
The building comprised six floors of occupied office accommodation. As the offices remained operational during the survey, the works had to be carefully planned and coordinated to minimise disruption to staff and daily activities.
Survey Methodology
The survey included both internal and external data capture. Internally, AltiGeo used the Leica BLK360 laser scanner to record office areas, circulation spaces, common areas, stair cores and key building details across all six floors.
Externally, the Leica RTC was used to capture the building façade and surrounding context with a high level of accuracy and detail. Black and white targets were used as a base for geolocation.
A total of 660 laser scans were recorded across the building. The survey was divided over two days to suit the availability of the office occupants. The first three floors were surveyed on Day 1, while the remaining floors were completed on Day 2. This phased approach allowed the survey to be completed efficiently while reducing disruption to the occupied workplace.
The captured scan data was processed into a coordinated pointcloud, forming the basis for the production of accurate CAD drawings and an internal walkthrough. This provided the client with a clear digital record of VHI Cork as it existed at the time of survey.
